Year of the Horse - Lunar New Year banquet 2014

The LAST Lunar Banquet of 2014. Happy Year of the Horse for the tenth time! We couldn't get two more folks to join us so Alex and I just shared a table with some other stragglers. The founder of the bar association, a pal of mine from the community outreach committee and his associate, and a couple from a suburban firm.

About 15 minutes into the speeches, a friend of mine, a Chinese attorney from New Jersey, left the long line at the bar with a jug of wine. I mouthed, "Score! How much?" Twenty bucks. Not bad!

My tablemates got inspired. Chad, the white husband of a Korean attorney, started the bidding with the owner of Ocean Harbor, who was tending the bar. In English worse than even my dad's, the owner insisted on $45 and wouldn't budge for five minutes. Chad's wife intervened with talent and got the jug for $20! "For you- $20!" Asian hook-up!

They killed the jug and we all cleared out to Yakitori Boy for karaoke and more drinks. A good way to ring in my third year with the Asian bar.
