Joe + Tony = Trouble
Joe and Tony were scheduled to come in around 10 am. I biked to Arjan’s in the frigid morning rain after a long and late night out, and arrived just in time to hop into his car, where a toast smeared with nutella awaited me. The guys were pretty tired from the flight, the grand plan of a sleeping pill failing them both. We dragged their stuff upstairs, they spent the expected hour in awe of Arjan’s inspiring living space, and we walked to the center for sandwiches from the truck on the ‘gracht across from the bellowing flower guy.
We saw the Dom, sat at the fountain in the garden for a few minutes, and took the bus back to the house for a nap. And boy did we nap. For four hours, in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, we dozed. For probably three hours after that, we lazed. Arjan and I biked to the Albert Heijn for dinner ingredients. After dinner, the guys and I headed into the center by bus to Postillon to meet Fabian and his new friends.
We stayed there all night, listening to happy drunk Dutchmen singing old Dutch love songs in honor of their love it-hate it love song music festival. After a night of old Dutch love songs and good ol’ warm pekel met brie, we snuck into Arjan’s and passed out on the mattresses he generously and single-handedly dragged down his narrow, steep stairs for us.
